The Rockettes
When Jessie asked me a few weeks ago if I’d take her to see the Rockettes, I replied “absolutely,” and I eagerly anticipated seeing the Houston Rockettes in a surprise appearance at Verizon Center that somehow wasn’t on the Wizards schedule that I had. Even without Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady, I figured that seeing the Houston Rockettes in this hush-hush unannounced trip to DC would be memorable. Then I realized that the Wizards would be out of town at the time of the Rockettes visit, and without checking Houston’s schedule, I just hoped that I’d get to see the Rockettes play a halfway decent team since the Wizards wouldn’t be around…anybody but the famed Washington Generals that used to fall in defeat to the Harlem Globetrotters on a nightly basis. As the days led up to the Rockettes game, and I got a sneak peak at their schedule, I was impressed that they would be able to play at 4:00 pm this afternoon and then again at 7:00. Playing games on back-to-back nights in the NBA is always a tough test, so playing a double-header must be close to impossible. ”What stamina,” I thought. After work today Jessie and I met for dinner - a special filet treat at The Capital Grille, courtesy of the generosity of Cheryl’s former co-workers - but as 7:00 approached we hurried back to Verizon Center because I didn’t want to miss the opening tip. We crossed through the turnstiles and showed our tickets to a nearby usher. ”Head down this aisle to the floor,” she said. I was so excited to sit courtside that I didn’t notice my surroundings until we got to the floor. Then it hit me, like a SUV into a fire hydrant and a nearby tree, I crashed. ”I’ve been hoodwinked,” I muttered to nobody in particular. Somehow in place of the Houston Rockettes that I thought I was about to see, a troupe of high-kicking ladies in remarkable unison performed instead. It wasn’t bad, to be honest, and the patrons around me sure seemed honored to see this historic ‘Christmas Spectacular’, so I played along as well. I guess I’ll just be more aware from now on.
You are nuts Bri, clever, but nuts. I’m glad Jessie took you! I bet it was pretty neat! Hope you are enjoying the snow!! Talk to you soon. Love you!
